Words and Pictures with Claire Powell
We talked about being a self taught illustrator, the perils of social media and why comparison is the thief of joy
This week we’re delighted to share a fascinating interview with author and illustrator
whose latest book Marty Moose published earlier this month. We talked to Claire about being a self taught illustrator, her experience of writing her first book, how to use social media and why you shouldn’t always look too closely at what other artists are doing.
Claire Powell is a New York Times best selling children’s book illustrator who got her first book deal in 2016 and has never looked back. Her ongoing collaboration with Beth Lincoln on The Swifts has twice become an instant New York Times bestseller. Claire lives in Derbyshire with her husband.

This is what one of our paid subscribers recently said about our monthly call:
“Kid lit writers, do not sleep on Naomi & James's monthly subscriber zoom calls. In our half hour chat, I gained a wealth of helpful insight into my own manuscript and the publishing world. This type of access to creative's with their credentials is pretty astounding.”
