One of the reasons we started Words and Pictures was to share some of the things we’ve learned about the industry because unless you’ve worked in it, or been published there are lots of things that might surprise you about how it actually works.

After all, you don’t know what you don’t know.

So, in no particular order, here are some weird and wonderful truths about the publishing industry…

• When you see announcements in the Bookseller or on social media for deals that have been done, chances are they were actually done months before. The publicity teams have just been waiting for the most opportune time to announce them (normally closer to publication or around a book fair to generate buzz.)
